Jump to Revamp #2.
September 2007
The "Hobby Room" got so hot in the summer that I decided to add an air conditioning unit.

Had to take down the old sagging shelves to build an opening for the AC unit, then had to patch the wallboard back together.

Seemed like a good time to tear out the old cobbled together workbench too. Then the patching up of the whole wall sort of extended itself to include the end wall as well.
The replacement workbench.
Found this old desk, made from 2X6's, at a garage sale. It is heavy! 150 pounds, or so, I'm thinking.
In we go and no strained back, so far.
Gosh, using the back hoe actually worked as planned, after getting a little help from the photographer.

The new workbench is in and now some thought (and resting) is required before tackling the far end.

But, "as long as" and "might as well" quickly resulted in expending a bit more effort on the end wall.

At this stage it almost looks like the start of a painting or mural. Hmm, maybe something like one of these.

It's done for now -- maybe some more work next year.

Having come by some new cabinets, it was time to start revamp #2. Hopefully the final installment.

The first task was to remove the four odd desk units and the numerous boxes of old computer hardware that had magically accumulated. Then I added new wallboard to the one unfinished wall (not shown) and spackled up the left wall. A new paint job made it look all nice and spiffy, including a coat of concrete sealing gray for the old floor.

Step two was to cut and install the carpet (which accompanied the cabinets), and step three was to get the main cabinet drawer units into the room, kind of positioned. Next step is probably to study the multitude of connecting parts for awhile and try to remember how they all were arranged.

All done, and some of the many drawers and shelves are still empty. The left unit is, of course, the computer desk. The back unit is for "projects," whatever they might be. The unit on the right is the photography station. This little garage workroom now matches what I though was just a fantasy wish when we first moved in. So cool! Perhaps hanging a few pictures would be the finishing touch?
