February 2007:
This park gives you the feeling that you just drove out and camped in the desert. There is a cleared area
around each campsite but when you step outside that, you are then walking amongst the desert cactus.

Seeing the saguaro up close is so new to us and so impressive that
each new one
we see seems
to deserve taking another picture.

The nearby mountains added a nice touch.

Some are straight up and narrow while some branch out like crazy.

It takes around seventy years for the first branches to appear.

The end of our first day here.
and the next ...
and another.
There are both short flat hikes (like the one we took) and longer steeper ones which we saved for next time.
Okay, enough already.
