The campsites here are nicely spaced and since there is only the electricity to worry about, we were able to park however we wanted with a nice view into the desert and plenty of space on each side.

The park seems almost to be in a helicopter flight path, as flybys of this nature were not uncommon.

It was nice to see our old friend the saguaro cactus again, even without the usual sunshine.

The saguaro cactus seems to have a friendly feeling about it but others, such as these teddy-bear cholla, make a clear statement that you should keep your distance.

Now and then we would catch a flash of movement and then by looking hard we would be able to spot this little desert chipmunk.

This guy was around a number of times, acting like he wanted to come in and visit by sitting on the RV rear view mirror and looking in at us -- though in truth he was more likely looking at his own reflection in the window.

Arizona - Sonora Desert Museum

We went to the Desert Museum which is a combination botanical garden and zoo, making use of enclosed but wild desert areas as well as several zoo like enclosures. The larger animals were mostly all sleeping and keeping as much out of sight as they could.

They did have an interesting demonstration of raptors which would fly free but also return to the trainer for treats. They were used to people and would glide to a landing soaring just inches over our heads.

This was their great horned owl just landing.

Then the owl would pose while swiveling around to keep an eye on everything.
