McDowell Mountain Regional Park, though not far from Scottsdale, is right out in the middle of the desert with only a few tall cactus, compared to the other desert parks we had been visiting.

It is in a broad flat valley surrounded by mountains in the far distance.
It seems rather bleak but is also very quiet and rather peaceful with the camping sites nicely spread out. The other campsites were on one side of us and this was the view from the other side.
