The High Desert Museum is a private nonprofit organization funded by admissions, memberships and donations. They have both live and artificial exhibits. There is a gift shop and cafe on the grounds.

A great Horned Owl stares silently from his perch high in a tree.

The eagles seemed somewhat lethargic as they shuffled around on their perches. The birds kept here have been determined, for whatever reasons, to be unable to survive in the wild.

Another magnificent bird who occasionally hops down to examine the human spectators then goes back to sitting on his rock, as though he is above it all.

This slow shuffling porcupine didn't seem to be too unhappy about where he was, though he clearly would have preferred to somehow get the door open so he could discover where all the food was stored.

We spotted this mare with foal from a distance but when we got closer we found that ...

they were constructed totally of barbed wire.

There is a homesteader display area with this old wagon and ..

a few buildings plus an old sawmill.
We went to see a nice Otter exhibit but the Otter apparently gets tired and sleeps during most of the day. We looked only briefly at the indoor displays because after having lunch at their cafe we were feeling rather tired and sleepy too.
