Badlands National Park, South Dakota:

Northwest Loop, Trips, Home

September 2005:

We didn't know what to expect and found it to be somewhat like another planet.
Someone called it a "mini Grand Canyon."

Aptly named, should one be traveling through on foot or on a horse.

The Badlands is home to a fair sized Buffalo herd.

We were happy that he just walked on by, without paying us much attention.

Of course, anyone traveling near the Badlands has to make the mandatory stop at Wall Drug.

There were numerous signs and come-on's to visit official (commercialized)
Prairie Dog towns, of which there were several scattered outside the park.
This shot was taken at a natural (non-commercial) town inside the park.

We didn't even know they came in white.
