September 2005:
Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Rafter J-Bar Ranch
We drove past the Crazy Horse Monument on the way to Mount Rushmore
and took this picture from the road side.
After many many years it is still
only partially completed and seemed to be strongly commercialized.
It should be something, though, if it ever gets finished.

The Mount Rushmore Memorial is very sharp, clean and well kept up.
This is the view as you walk through the entrance.
It is pretty much what you might expect, except that seeing it up close
and in person
is definitely much better than just looking at a picture.

We drove back to our campground through Custer State Park where we saw this Buffalo.
It seems a much different looking animal than the Yellowstone bison.

The Bighorn Sheep came down to munch the grass as we were leaving the Custer visitor's center.

This is a very pleasant RV park with lots of open space and several different camping sections.

There are neighbors, of course, but there is also plenty of room and it was very relaxing.
